Days in the sun..

So lots of cool stuff has been happening lately.
I had a birthday - which in itself is not actually very exciting, but I did feel very loved - man, all these sweet people in my world!
I slept in, had delicious midday breakfast, got FREE bubble milk tea, and went to a trivia fundraiser thing and won a sports kit - soccer ball, frisbee, bat and stumps!! Winning things is fun, I think it's the first time I've ever won anything in a raffle!

The next day I made lanterns and pie, and had a party. That was great. The lanterns actually worked, and only one of them caught itself on fire - and that wasn't till near the end!! hehe. I wish I had more photos of the night -  it looked so pretty; all these golden glowing prisms, flickering candles and torches, surrounded by the shadowy nightforest..

On Sunday I biked into town with a couple of friends and we went to the people's coal port blockade. I'd never been before, so thought I'd check it out. The whole coal thing is a pretty tricky issue, but I am becoming more & more convinced that there must just be better ways of living and making money.. The coal dust sucks, the country being dug up and wrecked sucks, let alone stuffing the atmosphere.. hmm.
Also it was a gorgeous day, and paddling around the port in the sparkling water was just sub-lime.

Lastly we had community gathering, I went to dinner with excellent soccer buddies, and then the uni week was back on!

One of these days I shall do a really nice and together-ish post - for now, hope you enjoyed the random happenings!

The Tale of the Travelling Cake

Last night I made a cake. It looked like this:

(well, one piece of it did).

I took it to lunch with these girlies, to celebrate Ailie's Birthday.

However being only four of us, there was still a sizeable amount left.

So we picnicked on it outside the art gallery later:

But there was still this much left:

So I sent it home with this lovely lady after we'd hung out:

 to share with her family.

But wait, there's more!! Literally.

I'd actually baked another little cake with the extra mix, so finally we had fun housie cake times:

Which brings us to: The End.
(Of the Cake at least.)

Happy Cheesecake Times

It was my sister's birthday today. We had a pretty chilled day - hung out at The Lass for a while at an afternoon gig there, went to the beach - where I went on a skateboard for the third time in my life and went a teeny bit faster and DIDN'T DIE - whew.

Then later we had super yummy steak and vegies (thanks Skye for the steak!!).
And then friends over for present-opening and cake-eating! I made a lemon cheesecake decorated with strawberries and passionfruit - ahh so good :D.

It was fun hanging out with everyone. Elliott and I spent ages puzzling over the target word thing in the paper - we got so close to the 'excellent' score of 30 words! Only 3 words off.. Plus the 9-letter word. Let us know if you find out what word RETGUOCET makes.

Happy days..

parrty week

Another week in the life of yours truly, which happened to be of a rather party-ish nature:*

Sunday: Community BBQ lunch at a friend's place on a dreamful, summery afternoon
Monday: Essay-writing party(?!) - no, this wasn't actually a party, but there was a short diversion which involved driving around the neighbourhood with my housemates collecting 'useful' things from other people's hard rubbish deposits!
Tuesday: A spontanteous pre-birthday cake-eating party
Wednesday: Birthday dinner for a housemate o' mine
Thursday: Terrific and Tantalising Tea party - so much tea, so many teapots, so little time..
Friday: Another Birthday dinner for my housie!
Saturday: Soccer 'Ball' - celebratory season ending dinner, presentations, champagne and dancing into the night - woot!

*disclaimer: it may appear that I am always riding merrily high on a torrent of good spirits, wild abandon, and, er, feasting. Well, this disclaimer is just to say that I'm not. (well, the last mentioned is practically eternal, but apart from that -). Sometimes (strangely, it often seems to happen when I have a major assignment due the next day) I am very much not so, and would like to curl up in a corner and die quietly for a while. Actually, I think somewhere towards the end of the above week, I did just that. Fortunately for me, the sun never stays away too long..
